More about Cuccia St. Lucy

Only served on St. Lucy’s day, December 13th, in Sicilian households, is Cuccia. St. Lucy’s day it is observed as a no pasta or bread day and cuccia is made everywhere. Cuccia came about during the famine. A ship arrived with grain and people were so hungry that they just boiled the wheat and seasoned it only with olive oil. The different versions of cuccia, sweet or savory, are served during different meals throughout the day.
