This is another of those recipes from my childhood. I can remember eating this crock-pot pot roast recipe on top of a piece of bread. The pot roast just pulls right apart, and with the gravy, it tastes delicious.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lbs roast
  • 4 potatoes – peeled and cubed
  • 4 carrots – peeled and cut
  • 1/2 onion – cut

Directions

Get your crock-pot ready and set on high.

Heat a pan on the stove so that you can brown the top and bottom of the roast. After browning the roast, place all the ingredients, vegetables on the bottom, into the crock-pot. Pour in enough water to cover the vegetables. The roast will be done in about 5-6 hours. Take the roast and vegetables out of the crock-pot. Pour the liquid from the crock-pot into a pan on the stove. Heat the liquid and mix in corn starch until your desired consistency for gravy.

Enjoy!

A pot roast is usually cooked by browning the beef and slow-cooking in a covered dish. The tough beef becomes tender and very flavorful after slow-cooking. Sauerbraten is a popular pot roast in Germany.
